Team of the Week (Game Week 11)

Team Of The Week GW11

While the internationals keep the fantasy game broken for a few more days, we take a look at the top fantasy assets for gameweek 11 using our custom points system. The big wins this week were in defence and out front, with a quiet one from our usual suspects in midfield. This drove a 4-3-3 formation for the starting XI , with two slots each for Villa and Everton thanks to dominant home wins in the week past. Arsenal too see a duo in our team of the week, thanks to a spirited but ultimately frustrating trip to Sunderland. Average points stayed decent but not stellar at just over 27, so if these were the men you picked, you probably had a decent GW 11. Let’s start with a legend…

GOALKEEPER

Martinez (Aston Villa) : 28

We;ve said it before and we’re saying it again: there isn’t a man you’d want more between your posts in the event of penalties breaking out, and this week’s saved spot kick alongside a clean sheet and a busy haul of saves gives World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez the #1 jersey in our Team of the Week. He’ll probably brreak into the top 5 for the season so now’s as good a time as any to pick him up.

DEFENDERS

Digne (Aston Villa) : 30

Our second Villain entry this week with the incredibly unpredictable Lucas Digne. He’s had some amazing seasons and some howlers, but Villa are on great form all of a sudden and with fairly soft fixtures between here and December, Digne is likely to keep a clean sheet or two along the way, as well as more than his share of attacking contributions.

Gusto (Chelsea) : 28

As we said elsewhere, the three easiest points any club will pick up in this year’s premier league is at home to Wolves, and Chelsea did so in style this week. A rare goal for Malo Gusto alongside a clean sheet made for a bumper week of points. While the French right-back isn’t top of his class at Stamford for the year so far, we think Chelsea assets in general are about to lift off.

Van Hecke (Brighton) : 27

The only thing better than a Brighton appearance in our Team of the Week for game week 11 is seeing a seagull start to become a regular fixture. Van Hecke’s defensive leadership now has him scoring 20+ points in back-to-back game weeks, courtesy of wild volumes of completed passes and aerial dominance to beat the band. Home to Brentford and away to Forest are both potential continuations of Brighton’s clean sheet run of late. Grab this one ASAP.

Keane (Everton) : 26

A long-time bench man on draft squads, Michael Keane is one of those lads that shows up and dazzles once every few weeks, but is sadly hampered by intermittent injuries and lulls that make his value as a long term draft asset pretty questionable. That said, Everton are as good as they’ve been in years, and Keane is a central part of the defensive line, so he’s a decent pick in the late rounds of a draft if you’re stuck for a rotation option.

MIDFIELDERS

Zubimendi (Arsenal) : 24

And about time, too. Part of the morass of mids at Arsenal, Zubimendi has gone from strength to strength over the past few weeks. Odegaard still being off the pitch has helped Zubimendi, but his performances are approaching an average of 20 per game over the last three game weeks, and Arsenal themselves show no signs of slowing down. A little punty given the squad depth and rotation risk, but very unlikely to cause draft regret.

Dewsbury-Hall (Everton) : 25

Starting to show up more and more, the centre midfielder was indispensable to Leicester in their promotion campaign two years ago, and despite a quiet year at Chelsea last year, looks – like the rest of Everton’s midfield – to be finding a real rhythm. We’ve spoken before about Grealish and Gueye, but KDH found an assist, an array of connected crosses and a decent tackles haul this week to make our starting XI.

Nunes (Man. City) : 24

No single stat to lean on this week, just a wide spread of contributions to another win for City. A few tackles, a clearance here and there, a cheeky assist….not bad at all. Nunes won’t outshine almost any of his City team-mates in fantasy this year, but like Keane, he’s a grand one to have on your bench for a few bankable points every single week.

FORWARDS

Saka Transfermarkt

Saka (Arsenal) : 26

Whether Arteta’s men do The Thing this season or bottle it like the bottling bottlers they are, Saka is going to haul. The bad weeks for Bukayo will be better than most players’ good week. Providing service from the right wing with crosses and passes, as well as netting the odd goal himself here and there, it’s only ever one issue with Saka, and that’s injury. The most consistent player in fantasy football over the past 3 seasons…when he’s there.

Garnacho (Chelsea) : 30

Wolves were never going to put up much of a fight, but Argentinian winger Alejandro Garnacho made sure his team had every available goalscoring opportunity this week, with two assists from no fewer than nine connected crosses. At the far end, he managed not one but two blocked scoring attacks, a feat even Nathan Collins would be proud of. Risky pick with Chelsea wedged full of rotation options on the wings, but prone to flashes of brilliance.

Thiago (Brentford) : 32

And once again it’s Bees Beardyman-in-chief, Igor Thiago, showing that Keith Andrews’ Brentford side is about more than just crafty set pieces and long throw-ins. Two goals from 3 shots on target, but the real surprise in the details this year is his aerial dominance. He’s winning more battles than he loses, regardless of which CB monster he’s up against on any given week. Thiago also benefits from the lone gunman effect: his team are playing almost all their attacks through him, much like Jaidon Anthony at Burnley earlier this year. Definitely one to grab.
