Team of the week (GW3)

Gameweek three of this year’s Premier League saw a massive swing of points back from the forwards to the midfielders, resulting in our first 4-5-1 of the season so far. To cap off the chaos of the week gone by, ten of the starting eleven are new entries that didn’t make last week’s all-star line-up. Chelsea dominate with four entries thanks in no small part to some “questionable” VAR work at Stamford Bridge this week. Who made the cut? Join us after the jump to find out.

GOALKEEPER

Sanchez (Chelsea) : 13

A fairly low-scoring week for goalies, which is natural given the high scoring by absolutely everyone else. Sanchez takes the top spot this week to inch closer to Vicario’s crown as the highest-scoring goalie of the season thus far, courtesy of another clean sheet this week against Fulham.

DEFENDERS

Tosin (Chelsea) : 32

Mandem FC’s second entry in this week’s top team took his time to find his feet at Stamford Bridge after moving early last season, but was absolutely ruthless against his former home club in helping secure a controversial win. none of the fancy stuff like Enzo or Chalobah – Tosin got there this week on Clearances, Aerials won, Interceptions and Tackles. A defender’s defender.

Guehi (Crystal Palace….for now) : 30

Will we see him in red this year? Is a move to Anfield inevitable? It doesn’t matter to a young player of such skill and dedication that he managed to put one away for Palace even in the knowledge he may never wear their jersey again. Well done that man, Throw on another five million when you’re talking to Arne.

Senesi (Bournemouth) : 28

A rare clean sheet doesn’t hurt, and assisting the sole goal of the fixture doesn’t either. Despite a mostly filleted Cherries back line, Senesi continues to delight fans with solid defensive and attacking returns, albeit not with the frequency of players at bigger clubs.

Chalobah (Chelsea) : 28

The only player to retain his spot in last week’s starting XI, Trevoh Chalobah has been the absolute guardian at the back for Chelsea this season so far. Surprisingly though, he netted a goal last week and landed an assist this week. Not so long ago he seemed a player that many clubs wanted to offload. Not so now. Keep an eye out here readers, Chelsea are doing the do right now and he’s central to the whole show.

MIDFIELDERS

Anderson (Nott. Forest) : 35

How? Work, Forest may have taken an unexpected home kicking from West Ham, but reliable midfield asset Elliot Anderson gave defensive work his all this week, tackling low and intercepting high. It may not have worked out well for Nuno’s team, but this week he once again put in a shift that’s worth of any. For anyone that misses the Morgan Gibbs-White scoring of last year, here’s the replacement.

Fernandes (Man. Utd.) : 31

Love him, loathe him, drop him, draft him…you have to respect him. For the last few years he’s been the difference between United and genuine relegation risk, and this week’s slugfest against Burnley was absolutely made for workhorse fantasy assets like Bruno. The master of Crosses, Key Passes, shots on target and even (most of the time) super-reliable penalties. We can’t help but pick him when he’s on the table, and you should too.

Fernandez (Chelsea) : 30

Pick a stat. Any stat you like. If it isn’t penalties saved, Enzo delivers it. Aerials won? Assists? Crosses? Shot completion percentage? He’s got it all, he gives it all, and this week he’s among the four Chelsea players to earn a spot in the starting XI. One of the few players in the Premier League that’s genuinely fixture proof when it comes to Fantasy, and we expect to see him again and again in this piece as the weeks progress.

Szoboszlai (Liverpool) : 29

It was looking like the eternally defensive Arsenal would frustrate a 0-0 draw out of the champions this week…and then this happened.

Szoboszlai has already shown midfield and even defensive mastery this season, so it’s no surprise to see this absolute belter tip him over the edge for inclusion in this week’s Statr top XI.

Paqueta (West Ham) : 26

A badly-needed away win for Graeme Potter’s west ham, with Paqueta leading the charge. Himself and West Ham midfield partner James Ward-Prowse have been firm favourites here for a long time, as they have that glorious tendency to get stuck in even when facing tougher opposition. Expect both to outshine their club this season.

FORWARDS

Mbeumo (Man. Utd.) : 35

Is this it? Are United back? Has a transfer window finally gone their way? Well, if you ask their fans, a scraped 3-2 win over Burnley is as good as a Champions League final win. For everyone else, it’s still just comedy sliding towards tragedy. Mbeumo’s calibre is unquestionable, as he showed all season last year. This week he was our top scoring player across all positions and absolutely outshone every other listed forward. Will it last? We think so.
